When the summer heat is turned up, you may start to notice that your air conditioning unit struggles or fails to keep your house where you have the thermostat set. There are a number of reasons that this may be happening to your unit. In this piece we will look at issues with the unit itself that may be causing this problem.
Leak of Refrigerant
Refrigerant nevers wears out or runs out anymore. So if you are having an issue with your refrigerant it means there is a leak somewhere in your unit. While the refrigerant is leaking out your air conditioner will struggle to keep up with the cooling demands that you put on it, and if it runs out completely your unit will shut down altogether. Luckily a leak is an easy and inexpensive fix.
Fan Motor or Compressor Issues
An older or faulty motor or compressor can overheat and work improperly. Basically what happens is that these components run themselves out and overheat. If they shut off for a while to cool down then your house heats up. Once the parts have cooled down again they kick back on and bring your temperature back down inside. The stop and go nature of this issue can make it hard to catch, especially if there is little strain on the motor and compressor and they don’t shut down often enough for you to catch it right away.
Dirty Air Conditioner Coils
You have two types of coils to concern yourself with, condenser coils and evaporator coils. The condenser coils are outside. These coils help remove the heat from your house and thus cool your air. It’s practically magic. If these coils are dirty or clogged up then they will not function properly and the hot air won’t be removed from your residence.
Evaporator coils are inside your home. Air needs to pass through these coils. When these coils get dirty and grimy the air can’t pass through. When this happens the coils freeze up and nothing gets through leaving the air in your home stale and tepid and hot. Call today!
