AIR CONDITIONING STRANGE SOUNDS

Normally, the appeasing sound of your air conditioner will actually help you sleep rather than disturb you. However, when it starts making funny noises; it will do the exact opposite, waking you up in the middle of the night. Forcing you to turn it off. Most of the time, strange sounds are symptoms of problems that need to be fixed.

Buzzing or clicking sound
If it makes a buzzing or clicking noise, the cause is usually loose wiring or bolts. This is something that you can fix yourself if you have the patience. However, it can also mean the relay switch is damaged. Which would need to be replaced.

Rattling sound
A rattling sound, on the other hand, could mean that the motor is loose and needs to be secured.

Hissing sound
A hissing sound could be something meaningless like air leaks causing the tape around your air conditioner to vibrate. Which you first need to try to fix yourself. If it doesn’t solve the issue, that kind of sound can mean there is a refrigerant leak, in which case you should turn off your unit and therefore call a professional.

Banging sound
Usually, if an internal part of your air conditioner is broken or unscrewed, it will move around and collide with everything inside, making a disturbing noise. This requires you to have it checked to figure out the source of the problem before it becomes worse. Also, when your compressor is worn out and needs to be replaced, it may make that kind of sound.
